Bella Terra is an outdoor shopping mall in Huntington Beach, California. It was built on the site of the former Huntington Center. ==History== * 1966: Opens as the enclosed Huntington Center. Anchor stores include The Broadway and Montgomery Ward, with a Barker Brothers furniture store (built with the same architectural style as The Broadway) across the parking lot and an unenclosed strip of several shops adjacent. * Circa 1970: JCPenney opens midway along the enclosed mall area. * 1986: New wing is built with Mervyn's. * 1992: JCPenney closes and moves to Westminster Mall. * 1995: Burlington Coat Factory replaces JCPenney. Barnes and Noble opens in October, moving into the long-vacant former Barker Bros. building. * 1996: The Broadway closes due to the company being purchased by Macy's and liquidated. * 2000: Burlington Coat Factory sues mall owners, claiming they are being "forced out" during the mall's redevelopment. * 2001: Montgomery Ward closes due to liquidation. * 2003: Mall closes, except for Meryvn's and Burlington Coat Factory, which closes shortly after the mall closes. The mall and Burlington Coat Factory are demolished soon afterward, except for Mervyn's, the empty Montgomery Ward, and the empty The Broadway. * 2006: Bella Terra opens with Kohl's in the old The Broadway building.
